Our Mission and More
Mission Statement Global Roots Advocacy is a nonpartisan lobbying organization committed to advancing humane, constitutional immigration policy through targeted legislative reform and strategic legal advocacy. Our work is grounded in the belief that every individual, regardless of immigration status, deserves access to fundamental human rights, due process, and the opportunity to live with dignity and safety in the United States. In recent years, the treatment of immigrants, both undocumented and documented, has revealed widespread and systemic human rights violations. From the exposure of detention centers such as "Alligator Alcatraz," which have drawn comparisons to modern-day concentration camps, to the unlawful deportation of international students and scholars, including those at leading institutions such as Harvard University, the U.S. immigration system has moved further away from its constitutional and moral foundations. The threats to defund universities that support immigrant communities reflect a broader erosion of educational freedom, equal protection, and legal integrity. Our mission is to identify and challenge the legislation that enables these violations, while proposing and advocating for reforms that prioritize transparency, accountability, and equity. We are currently focused on influencing policy in California and Colorado, where we are collaborating with lawmakers, civil rights coalitions, and legal advocates to support legislation such as California Assembly Bill 937, which limits local cooperation with federal immigration authorities, and Colorado Senate Bill 251, which expands legal support and language access for immigrants involved in deportation proceedings. We work closely with legislators including Senator María Elena Durazo in California and Representative Serena Gonzales-Gutierrez in Colorado to push for policy solutions that center immigrant welfare and constitutional protections. At the federal level, our team is preparing to expand operations into Washington, D.C., where we will engage directly with the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship and the Senate Committee on the Judiciary. We will advocate for the reintroduction of key federal measures including the Access to Counsel Act and a revised version of the New Way Forward Act, designed to roll back the punitive framework established by the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996. In addition, we are monitoring and responding to legislative threats targeting immigrant students and working to ensure the protection of educational access and institutional autonomy under the Dream and Promise Act. Beginning September 2025, we will expand our efforts to Tennessee, a state that has seen increased immigrant enforcement actions and lacks adequate legal infrastructure for immigrant communities. There, we aim to establish partnerships with local advocacy organizations, legal aid clinics, and university-based policy centers to drive legislative conversations grounded in data, community engagement, and legal precedent. Global Roots Advocacy remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the Constitution, restoring humanity to immigration law, and building a future where policy reflects compassion, justice, and respect for all. Through research, coalition-building, and legislative engagement, we seek not only to reform unjust laws, but to redefine how immigration is understood and governed in the United States.
